Delicious Smoked Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups All- Purpose Flour
  • 3 Cups Granulated Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Tbsp Baking Soda
  • 1 1/2 Tsp Baking Powder
  • 2 Tbsp Salt
  • 4 Large Eggs
  • 1 1/2 Cups Buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 Cups Warm Water
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil
  • 2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 1/2 Cups Butter, Softened
  • 8 Oz Cream Cheese, Softened
  • 1 1/2 Cups Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 3 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 7 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • Heavy Cream, As Needed

Special Tools

  • Parchment Paper

Directions

  1. Let’s start off by getting our smoker turned on and set to 350°F. While the grill heats up, let’s get our cake pans ready. Get a parchment paper, and set your cake pan on top and draw the outline of the cake pan then cut out the shape. Place your newly cut circle and place it in the cake pan. There’s 3 cake pans so repeat the process 2 more times.
  1. Once the cake pans are ready, it’s time to mix up the cake batter. Start off by getting a medium size bowl and toss in all the dry ingredients. Make sure to mix all your dry ingredients well before incorporating and of the liquid ingredients. In a stand mixer or by hand keep whisking and slowly start incorporating the eggs, then pour in the buttermilk, and do the same for the remaining ingredients.
  1. Distribute the batter evenly among the three cake pans. What helps distributing the batter is using a 1 cup measuring cup. Get your cake pan and slightly lift it off a flat surface, about 1 inch and drop it. Repeat this process a few times till the surface off the cake looks flat and you’ve gotten rid of most of the air bubbles. Take your cakes to the smoker and put them far away from the heat source, close the lid and let it be for 30-35 minutes. The cakes are ready when you can stick a toothpick in and pull it out clean.
  1. Set your cake on top of a wire rack so it can cool down. While the cake cools, get started on the frosting. Get your butter and cream cheese in a bowl and mix until both are evenly incorporated, then toss in the coco powder and heavy cream. Mix until it has one consistent color, add the Limited Edition Pit Boss Pecan Maple Walnut Rub and the remaining ingredients and mix again till there is one consistent color. Put the frosting into piping bags to decorate.
  1. Move one cake layer onto your cake stand or wherever you will be enjoying this cake. Then get your piping bag and pipe an even amount of frosting on top of the first cake layer but remember not to go too heavy because we will be using the frosting to decorate our cake. Stack another layer on top and frost the top as well. Place your last layer on top and frost the top on your cake, you can stop here but if you feel confident evenly distribute the frosting around the whole cake. It helps if you use tool that covers a large amount of flat surface to smooth your cake out. Once your cake is frosted there’s only one thing left to do, ENJOY!
